Carlo Massimino
- The next World Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist
Carlo began
his journey as a Taekwondo athlete at the tender age of six, when
his parents gave him a Taekwondo uniform for his birthday. Carlo's
neighbour was Taekwondo instructor Tiger Lee. Master Lee's son and
Carlo were constantly pretending to be martial arts experts.
Carlo's parents
thought it was time for Carlo to learn a martial art for real. Little
did they know how it would affect both their and Carlo's life.

Twenty years
on and Carlo is now considered one of the most talented players
Australian Taekwondo has ever produced. Carlo never lost sight of
his dream, which he made at the age of twelve: to be in the Olympics.
Carlo made it to the 2000 Sydney Olympics and is now headed for
the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he's pursuing his ultimate dream:
to win an Olympic gold medal.
Carlo already
has an impressive record of competition wins.
He has been
Australian National Champion twelve times over. In 1997, Carlo won
the grueling Dutch Open and in the same year gold at the Commonwealth
Championships. In 1998 Carlo went on to win the US Open, even though
only months before he had broken his collarbone, and then went on
to win the Spanish Open. Carlo represented Australia at the 2000
Sydney Olympics and out of a field of fifteen was ranked fifth.
Carlo competed
in the Korean World Championships in 2001, his first International
competition since the 2000 Olympics. After making it to the quarterfinals,
Carlo was unfortunately privy to the sports' politics and was not
awarded points that he had so clearly scored. Never being a bad
sportsman, Carlo was disappointed but hopes to claim the title of
Australia's first ever World Champion at the German World Championships
in 2003.
