Congratulations to all Team Carlo Black Belts on their wonderful efforts this weekend at the Victorian Sparring Championships. Overall our team results were amazing with half of our total competitors winning gold. The most noticeable victory however was the growth and maturity shown by our players, especially amongst the junior ranks. As with any competitionour players walked away having gained new skills and a determination to improve even further. We would also like to commend our athletes, coaches and parents on their conduct off and on the court.

We hope you all join us in wishing Tom Afonczenko and Alana Pozzebon the very best of luck as they head off to compete at the US Open. The event will run from 10 – 14th of February in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tom & Alana have been working extremely hard over the pre-season period in prepartion for this event, Alana even in plaster with a broken hand!! They will both gain an enormous amount of experience from this event which is the largest taekwondo open in the world. Carlo won a gold medal at this event back in 1998 and in 2009 Team Carlo brought home three of the six medals won by Australia. We wish Tom and Alana all the very best and look forward to hearing from them when they return.

Whilst many where off on well earned breaks after Christmas, member and coach George Afonczenko set to work on his master piece at Team Carlo. George designed and pre-made our new grandstand seating in the main hall. What was originally going to be a day of ‘knocking things together’ stretched into an entire week of 43+ degree temperatures and a lot of hard work. We are absolutely delighted with the finished result and hope our members will enjoy the finished seating. We are so grateful to George, not only for the wonderful addition to our club but for also giving up a week of his precious family time over the Christmas period. Here are some photos during the constrcution.

They came in all shapes and sizes to the Team Carlo Wig Christmas Party. There were some huge afro’s and hideous mullets (sorry Adam) on the night and it was funny watching people to see how long it took them to recognise their instructors and class mates. We thank everybody for coming along and celebrating what has been a wonderful year at Team Carlo. The night of course also hosted our Annul Awards presentation, and we are happy to announce the following award recipients:
Most Improved Teen Intermediate – Moni Barber
Most Improved Teen Advanced – Andrew Papaioannou
Most Improved Senior Beginner – Ben Johansen
Most Improved Senior Intermediate – Alex Aernouts
Most Improved Senior Advanced – Bronwyn Johns
Congratulations to all of our winners who were deemed worthy recipients by all class Instructors.
The final award of the year went to a student who has had a successful year both nationally and internationally. We also congratulate you on your achievements and dedication to your training.
2009 Senior Athlete of the Year – Alana Pozzebon
Here are some Photos from the night.

Thanks to everybody that came along to Fantasy World for the Team Carlo Junior Christmas Party on Friday night, 27 November.
All of the kids had a ball and it was great to see the kids interact with each other in a social setting.

Our Annual Awards presentation for the year has taken place and we are pleased to announce the following winners for our Most Improved Awards:
Our Junior Athlete of the Year was awarded to:
Kyla Tabone
Instructors and Assistant Instructors are asked to vote for each category. Results are then collated and combined to find our winners. The criteria for winning an award is based on personal growth over a period of time. Aside from Athlete of the Year, awards are not based on competitive achievement.
Well done to all those students that have received awards. Your dedication and commitment to training has not gone un-noticed and you should be very proud of your achievement!

Finally it’s here! After much preparation, we’re very proud to launch our new-look website.
If you keep watching, you’ll find that our site will grow and develop — we think of our website like a living garden — it needs care and maintenance, and we’ll be improving the scenery as we go along.
It’s also most useful when it has visitors and contributors, so we’ll welcome your comments and input as our blog grows and we add more content.
And of course we’d love your feedback.
As we make changes, we’ll add them here, so keep watching our blog (soon we’ll have an RSS feed link so you can add our blog to your favourite news reading software).
